Meet the Artist: Cristian Massaro
Meet the artisan behind many of VIETRI’s beloved collections including Cucina Fresca, Foresta, Lastra, Lastra Evergreen, Lastra Holiday, Pietra Natale, Pietra Serena, and Pietra Tacchino.
Born in Tuscany, Cristian Massaro is the latest maestro to join the Virginia guild. In 2017, after graduating with honors from the Academy of Beaux Arts in Florence, Cristian began work as an apprentice with maestro artisan, Stefano Roselli. For the past eight years, Stefano and Cristian have collaborated tocreate and inspire some of our most beloved collections. Specializing in drawing, painting, and sculpture, he adds passion, intuition, and artistic intelligence to everything he creates.
“I am passionate about making sure I love what I do. It is important to me that I have a relationship with my work, so that I always feel proud of what I create. It is meaningful to me when people value my work. For me, it means that I was able to establish a connection, that something in my art spoke to them, sparked a memory, left them feeling better than when they came. Art is a way for me to transmit my feelings of joy and happiness to other people. A way for me to share it with them, no matter how big or small.”
Fico
A symbol of peace and prosperity, figs are much admired in Italian culture paying homage to the country's rich heritage and natural beauty. These handsponged designs by maestro artisan Gianlucca Fabbro will bring that beauty to your home with the lifelike details, generous, pleasing shapes, and warm, inviting colors that grace each piece.
Lastra Holiday
Full of artistic detail yet also refreshingly simple, the Lastra Holiday collection brings crisp, festive joy into your home. Handpainted red birds perch on fir trees, and according to Italian tradition, they signify that someone who loves you is thinking of you. With its heartwarming message and timeless design, this collection will become a cherished part of your holiday traditions.
Pietra Natale
A festive friend to the Pietra Serena collection, Pietra Natale shares Pietra Serena’s handpressed edges, and it adds its own spirit with joyful depictions of Babbo Natale, Italy’s Santa Claus. Brimming with charming details like Babbo Natale’s handpressed beard, mittens, and coat pocket for treasures, Pietra Natale is sure to bring delight to your holiday table for years to come.
Old St. Nick
VIETRI's signature holiday collection is a celebration of nostalgia, family, and holiday spirit. When maestro artisan Alessandro Taddei was a small boy, his mother read him stories about Babbo Natale, Italy's Santa Claus. Alessandro transforms those memories into whimsical and joyful designs that portray Old St. Nick's happy adventures during the holiday season.
Foresta
Let incredible detail, texture, and shape take center stage this holiday season with Foresta, created by maestro artisan Stefano Roselli. Stefano reimagines the snow-capped pines overlooking il Lago di Como in this assortment of sculptural trees, and the result is a magical winter wonderland. The trees are decorated with ornaments, stars, and birds, and some are designed to place a candle inside for a luminous effect.
